Spain Versus Tunisia World Cup Preview

Stuttgart June 19, 2006 - Spain/Tunisia

My Pick: Spain

European underachievers Spain, put on a stunning show against Ukraine as they romped home 4-0 winners against an indifferent Ukraine side. Luis Arragones' side look very composed and should start odds-on favourites to win against Tunisia in their second group game.

Spain Team News: Talismanic striker Raul looks certain to start on the bench with Torres and David Villa leading the line upfront. Apart from the starting 11, the substitute bench looks star-studded with Canizares, Raul, Reyes, Fabregas, Salgado, Marchena all starting on the bench.

Injuries/Suspensions: Spain have a full squad to pick from. No injuries and not a single player on a yellow card.

Tunisia played out an interesting game against the Saudi's. Last minute Radhi Jaidi header saved the Africans' blushes as Roger Lemerre's side drew with the Saudis. With Ukraine displaying atrocious form in the opener, a decent result against the Spaniards would catapult Tunisia's chances to make the last 16. The World Cup has been devoid of any major upsets but Tunisia would like to change the trend.

Tunisian Squad: Tunisia will still be without Brazilian striker Santos up-front. Trabelsi and Jaidi will don the defensive duties as the Tunisians plan to shut out Spain.

Injuries/Suspensions: Santos is not expected to start for Tunisia.Raidh Bouazizi, Adi Chedli, Haqui, Chikhaoui are all on one-yellow card.

My verdict:
Spain are clear favorites to win the game after putting on a supreme display to blank Ukraine. Tunisia looked out of sorts against the Saudis. All in all Spain to win it, 2-0 or perhaps even 3-0.
