How We Rank the Bookmakers on This Site
This page explains how the fourteen UK-licensed bookmakers on our homepage were chosen and put in order, where the information comes from, and what the ranking cannot tell you.
Which bookmakers are compared, and how were they chosen?
We compare fourteen bookmakers, not the whole UK market. Each holds an active remote betting licence from the Gambling Commission, which we checked on the Commission's public register. A licence is a condition for being listed, not a mark of quality.
Most of the fourteen came from a shortlist of UK-licensed bookmakers ordered by how often people in the UK search for each brand; the others were added by our editor. Every bookmaker on the list was approved by our commercial team, and we have an affiliate arrangement with all fourteen: if you open an account through a link on this site, we may receive a commission. Bookmakers without such an arrangement are not on the list.
How a bookmaker came onto the list plays no part in its position. Search popularity is used only to choose which bookmakers are compared, never to put them in order.
Why commission does not decide the order
Each position comes only from the criteria on this page, applied in the order described below. Commission, payments from bookmakers, the affiliate links themselves and brand popularity are not inputs. All fourteen bookmakers have an affiliate link with us, so none of them is placed higher for having one.
Sports coverage
This counts most. Where we could read a bookmaker's full A–Z sports menu, we counted the sports in it with one set of rules for everyone: for example, separate hurling and Gaelic football headings count as one sport, and novelty, casino and virtual sections are not counted. A count of 32 or more puts a bookmaker in the first group, 28 to 31 in the second, and 23 to 27 in the third, the same group as a bookmaker we could not count; fewer than 23 counts against it.
The counts for 10bet, LiveScore Bet, Unibet, Betway and William Hill come from their UK websites; those for Coral and Ladbrokes come from screenshots of the A–Z menu on their UK sites, and the one for BoyleSports from a screenshot of the A–Z menu on boylesports.com, because these websites could not be opened from our research setup. Each count is shown with the date we read it in the comparison table on our reviews page.
BoyleSports' count of 36 comes from a screenshot taken on 5 November 2026 that shows the web address, boylesports.com, and the complete A–Z menu. The same address also serves customers outside the UK, and nothing else in the screenshot marks the page as the UK version. Our editor accepted the count. Without it, BoyleSports would sit in the third group.
For BetMGM we also hold a count only from screenshots without the web address. It falls in the third group, which is where BetMGM would be without it, so it does not affect its place.
For five of the fourteen bookmakers, bet365, Betfred, BetVictor, Fitzdares and NetBet, we could not count the sports list reliably. They receive neither credit nor a penalty on this criterion, so their positions rest on payments and customer support.
We also looked for the core markets in football, horse racing, cricket, golf and tennis. This check does not change positions.
Comparisons of individual events
For a few events we compared the full market lists of some bookmakers side by side. These comparisons covered a small number of events and bookmakers, markets change from one event to the next, and the results were not consistent enough to apply generally. They are not used in the ranking.
Betting tools and features
We looked for in-play betting, Cash Out, bet builders and live streaming. We found each of these at most of the bookmakers and found no bookmaker that clearly lacks one, although we could not confirm every feature at every bookmaker. These features do not change positions.
Mobile apps
We recorded what each bookmaker's listings in the UK App Store and on Google Play say, including the iPhone software version an app needs. We could not confirm both apps for every bookmaker, and we did not install or test any app. Mobile compatibility does not affect positions.
Payments and withdrawals
- Processing time: how long the bookmaker says it takes to process a debit-card withdrawal on its side, taking the upper end of any range it states. We do not measure it ourselves.
- Minimum withdrawal: the smallest amount the bookmaker says you can withdraw.
- Withdrawal method types: we count how many of these seven types the bookmaker offers in the UK: debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, open banking, bank transfer, and e-wallets such as Skrill or Neteller. Several providers of the same type count once.
- Fees: a small withdrawal fee only separates bookmakers that are otherwise level.
Approval, processing and arrival are different times
Bookmakers describe withdrawal times in different ways. Approval, sometimes called a pending period, is the time the bookmaker takes to review your request. Processing is the time it takes to send the money once the request is approved. Arrival is when the money reaches your account, which depends on your bank or payment provider. The ranking uses the processing time a bookmaker states; approval checks such as identity verification and the arrival time are not part of it.
Customer support
We look for a published phone line, or published support hours of at least twelve hours a day, in addition to live chat, email and a help centre.
How is the ranking decided?
Sports coverage comes first, then payments and withdrawals, then customer support. A later criterion only separates bookmakers that are level on the earlier ones.
Where we found no documented difference, bookmakers are level. The homepage shows no position numbers: level bookmakers simply appear next to each other, in alphabetical order.
Where we could not find or check a piece of information, it counts neither for nor against the bookmaker. Unknown information is not treated as a missing feature.
Information from undated pages, or from pages that contradict each other, does not give a bookmaker an advantage.
Where does the information come from?
We used the bookmakers' own UK pages, such as their sports lists, help centres, payment pages and terms, their app-store listings and the Gambling Commission register, collected between 20 October and 3 November 2026. The one later addition is the BoyleSports sports-menu screenshot of 5 November 2026; no other bookmaker was researched again on that date. Where a bookmaker's website could not be opened from our research setup, we used screenshots of its UK pages, its help pages and its app-store listings instead. We did not open accounts, deposit money or place bets, and the ranking is not based on customer testing.
Not every bookmaker could be checked to the same depth
Some bookmakers publish more of their terms in places we could read than others, so we have more verified information about some of them. Because unknown information counts as neither good nor bad, a bookmaker whose terms we could document fully can sit below one whose terms we could not find, if its documented terms are weaker. A lower position therefore does not always mean a weaker service, and positions can change when missing information is verified.
Who decides the order
The order is set by our editor using the criteria on this page. The ranking has not been audited by an outside organisation. The sport pages list the same fourteen bookmakers A to Z; they do not have their own ranking.
How often is the ranking updated?
We review the ranking when a bookmaker changes something we measure, or when we can verify information that was missing, and positions can change as a result. The date of the last update is shown above the list on the homepage.
What the ranking cannot tell you
The ranking compares published information about fourteen bookmakers on the dates shown. It does not show which bookmaker is best for you, and it is not a statement about odds, payouts or service quality in your own experience.
It covers fourteen bookmakers, not the whole market, and not every bookmaker was checked to the same depth. Comparisons of individual events used a small sample and do not apply to every event. Bookmakers change their sports, payment terms and support arrangements, so check the bookmaker's own terms before you sign up.
