What are the best betting apps in the UK, and how do you choose one?

The best betting apps in the UK are the ones that suit how you bet and that come from a bookmaker holding a Gambling Commission licence. This page lists them A to Z and does not put the apps in order, because we have not tested them and will not claim otherwise; our general ranking of the bookmakers is on the homepage, and app compatibility does not affect it. What we can do is show you how to check an app yourself: who publishes it, what it asks your phone for, which safer gambling tools it carries and whether it handles the bets you actually place.

Twelve of the fourteen bookmakers above have an iPhone app in the UK App Store and an Android app listed on Google Play, checked on 20 October 2026; LiveScore Bet and Fitzdares were checked a day later: both have an iPhone app in the UK App Store (21 October 2026), and their Android apps have not been checked on Google Play. That tells you the apps exist. It does not tell you which is quicker, clearer or cheaper to use, so none of those claims appear here.

Start with three questions. Do you bet mostly on football accumulators, racing singles or a bit of everything? Do you want one app or are you happy to hold accounts with two or three? And how much of the account management (limits, deposits, withdrawals) do you want to do from your phone rather than a laptop? Your answers decide what to check in the sections below. A shortlist of UK betting apps is easier to judge when you hold each one against the same few questions.

Which app is published by whom, and when did it first appear on the App Store?

The table lists the iPhone app of each bookmaker as named in the UK App Store, the seller shown in the store and the date of its first App Store release. All data was read from the store listings on 20 October 2026. Android apps for the same twelve brands are listed on Google Play. LiveScore Bet and Fitzdares are not in the table because their listings were checked on 21 October 2026; both have an iPhone app in the UK App Store, and the comparison tables show the iOS version each app needs.

A first release date is not an age-of-quality measure. It only says when the listing first appeared. Google Play was checked from a page served for Great Britain; installing from a UK device could not be tested from our network, so the Android apps are described as listed, not as installed.

How do you download a genuine betting app safely?

Whichever of the betting apps UK bookmakers publish you pick, download from the official store for your phone: the App Store on an iPhone, Google Play on an Android phone. Open the app's listing, find the seller or developer name, and compare it with the licence holder named by the bookmaker's own site and on the Gambling Commission register. A legitimate bookmaker links to its store listings from its own website, which is the safest way to land on the right one.

The seller check matters because store names are easy to copy. Search results can show lookalike apps carrying a bookmaker's brand, and a fake app can collect your login or card details. As the table shows, the seller name is often a company name rather than the brand, so a difference in wording is not a warning by itself. A seller you cannot connect to the licence holder is.

Follow these steps before you sign in for the first time.

Steps to install a UK betting app without getting caught out

Five checks take a couple of minutes and apply to any bookmaker.

  1. Open the bookmaker's own website and use its link to the App Store or Google Play listing, rather than searching the store.
  2. Read the seller or developer name on the listing and note it down.
  3. Look the bookmaker up on the Gambling Commission public register and confirm the licence holder and that its remote betting licence is held.
  4. Compare the two names. If you cannot connect the seller to the licence holder, do not install.
  5. After installing, check the permissions the app asks for and open the account settings to find the deposit limit and time-out options before you pay in.

Should you use a betting app or the bookmaker's mobile site?

A betting app is a program installed on your phone. The mobile site is the bookmaker's normal website opened in your browser. Both connect to the same account and the same licence, so the rules on stakes, settlement and complaints do not change between them. What differs is convenience, storage, notifications and how much of your phone the bookmaker can reach.

Read moreShow less

An app can stay logged in, use a fingerprint or face unlock, and send alerts when a bet settles. A mobile site needs no install, takes no storage and asks for no permissions beyond what a browser grants. Some people prefer a site on a shared or older phone for that reason.

If you bet a few times a month, the mobile site may be all you need. If you check scores and place several bets a week, an app saves logins. Neither choice affects your odds, and you can use both with one account.

What do permissions, biometric login and notifications mean for you?

An app asks your phone for permissions: to send notifications, to use the camera for identity checks, or to read your location. Grant only what a feature needs. Location access is a special case, because a bookmaker licensed for Great Britain may need to confirm you are in the country when you place a bet, so refusing it can stop the app working.

Biometric login means unlocking the app with a fingerprint or your face. The app does not store your fingerprint; your phone checks it and tells the app yes or no. It is convenient and also a risk if other people can unlock your phone, so set a strong phone passcode and do not register someone else's fingerprint.

Notifications are the setting to look at most closely. Alerts for settled bets are useful. Alerts that tell you about a new price or an offer while you are not betting can nudge you to place a bet you had not planned. Switch off the marketing ones in the app and in your phone's notification settings, and keep the ones that carry your account information.

Which safer gambling tools should a UK betting app carry?

Look for tools to control your betting inside the app itself, not only on the bookmaker's website: with UK betting apps they usually sit in the account or safer gambling settings. Look for deposit limits, a time-out or break, a way to see your betting history and net position, and a route to self-exclusion. Where they sit varies, so open the account or settings area and look before you deposit.

Set a deposit limit first, while you are calm, for a period and amount you can lose without a problem. Check the wording in the app, because the exact rules differ between bookmakers.

For a longer break, GAMSTOP is the free self-exclusion service covering licensed online gambling operators in Great Britain. If betting is taking up money or time you cannot spare, the Gambling Commission explains how to control the time and money you spend gambling, and our page on responsible gambling lists where to get support.

What should the best football betting apps let you check?

For football, the best football betting apps are the ones where you can find the market you want without hunting, read the bet slip clearly and see the rules behind each bet. We cannot say which of the fourteen does this well, so here is what to open and read yourself: the football market list for a Premier League match, the in-play section during a live game and the rules page for each bet type.

Read moreShow less

On a slip, check that the stake, the odds, the potential return and the bet type are all shown before you confirm. If you build an accumulator, look at how the app displays the combined price and whether you can remove a selection afterwards. For the sums behind accumulators, use our bet calculator and the guide to types of bets.

Odds format also matters. Fractional odds are common in the UK, but many apps let you switch to decimal in the settings. Our odds converter turns one into the other if you want to check a price. Hold the best football betting apps against this checklist rather than against anyone's ranking, including our general ranking on the homepage.

Live betting and score screens

During a match, check how quickly the app refreshes prices and whether a bet is accepted or rejected with a message that explains why. Treat in-play betting with extra care, since prices change in seconds and it is easy to place a bet faster than you meant to. Features such as cash out and live streaming differ by bookmaker, event and account, so read the terms for each one in the app before you rely on them.

What should you look for in a racing betting app?

A racing app needs to show a race card clearly: runners, jockey, trainer, the draw where relevant and the current price. Check whether it lets you place a win bet or an each-way bet on the race you want, and look at the each-way terms shown for the race, because the number of places and the fraction paid vary by race. The app should show them before you confirm.

If you bet on a favourite or a short price, find out how the app handles a non-runner. A late withdrawal can reduce the odds on your horse through a deduction known as Rule 4, so look at what the bookmaker's rules say. Our each-way calculator shows the sums, and the horse racing betting page covers the sport in more detail.

How secure is a betting app, and what happens to your data?

A betting app holds your name, address, date of birth, payment details and betting history, so its security matters as much as its odds or its layout. You cannot audit an app's code, but you can take sensible steps. Install updates when they appear, use a unique password for the account, and turn on any extra login protection the bookmaker offers.

Read moreShow less

Be careful with public wifi when you log in or pay, and do not leave a betting app signed in on a phone you lend to others. Betting apps UK users install on a shared family phone are a particular risk, so never leave one signed in. If you lose the phone, use the bookmaker's website to change the password and contact its support team.

Read the privacy information on the store listing too. Both the App Store and Google Play ask developers to describe the data an app collects. Those summaries come from the publisher, so treat them as the publisher's statement, then read the bookmaker's privacy policy for the detail. If you want fewer ways to be tracked, review what the app asks to access and withhold anything it does not need.

Betting apps FAQ

Are betting apps legal in the UK?

Yes, provided the bookmaker holds a Gambling Commission licence for Great Britain and you are 18 or over. Check the licence holder on the Gambling Commission register before you register.

Which betting app is the best?

We have not tested the apps, so this page lists them A to Z and does not name a best one. Our general ranking of the bookmakers is on the homepage; app compatibility does not affect it. The best betting app for you depends on the sports you bet on and the tools you want. Use the checks on this page, and compare the apps' own listings.

Are betting apps free to download?

The twelve apps listed here can be found in the App Store and on Google Play, and the stores show whether an app is free to install. Installing does not cost you a bet, but you need to fund your account before you can place one.

How do I know a betting app is not fake?

Reach the listing through a link on the bookmaker's own website, then compare the seller or developer name with the licence holder on the Gambling Commission register. If you cannot connect the two, do not install it.

Do I need an app, or is the mobile site enough?

The mobile site is enough for many people. It uses the same account and is covered by the same licence. An app adds convenience, such as quick login and notifications.

Can I set a deposit limit in an app?

Look in the account or safer gambling settings; if you cannot find a deposit limit there, ask the bookmaker's customer service before you deposit. Open the settings and set one before you deposit.

Is biometric login safe on a betting app?

Your phone checks the fingerprint or face, not the app. It is safe only if nobody else can unlock your phone, so use a strong passcode and register only your own biometrics.

Can I use more than one betting app?

Yes, you can hold accounts with more than one bookmaker. Keep track of your total spending across all of them, and set limits on each one. GAMSTOP applies across licensed operators.

Why does an app ask for my location?

A bookmaker licensed for Great Britain may need to confirm that you are in the country when you place a bet. If you refuse, the app may not let you bet.

Where can I get help if betting is becoming a problem?

Use the app's own limits and time-out first, consider GAMSTOP, and contact GambleAware or read our responsible gambling page for support options.
